In fact, when I really want to get to the flagship and defeted it, I would start over the game until there is a "distress" sign in the firts jump. If I start and the firts two encounters I ended up with less than 50 % hull and little scrap, (and no special weapon or crew), I just start over. Its kind of a hard work to make and maybe it kill some of the "magic" but its less frustrating to advance in the game with better opportunity. What I do in this game and in others roguelike (like The Binding of Isaac) is to start over if the game isnt going as good as it could be. Thats the interesting thing with this game.
